Urgent Prayer RequestLes and Charlene Melton have been on the frontlines in Honduras since I was a small child. This past week, Les was working
on the bible college in Nicaragua. Charlene was trying to touch base with him later in the week and couldn't get a hold of
him. She started to get worried. Charlene then called the district superintendent to try to locate her husband. A search began
for Les. He was found lying in a bed in the fetal position with his head bleeding severely. He was rushed to the hospital
in the capital city where they drained fluid off of his brain (he had a hematoma). Then he was given 22 staples in his head.
After the hospital in Nicaragua had done all they could, they air lifted him to Ann Arbor.
Since I am going back
and forth to Ann Arbor for Spike's transplant, I stopped in to check on Les. He had just arrived at 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning.
His brother, Dan, was there with him (Charlene was resting at a nearby hotel). Dan filled me in on what had happened, however,
some of the details are still unknown. What they do know is that Les fell off a six-foot ladder and hit his head on the cement.
He stayed and worked after everyone else had left. Les was able to pull himself onto a bed and just prayed that someone would
find him......and they did.....27 hours later. At this time, Les does not remember
what happened or how he fell.
Les woke up briefly and when he saw me, he recognized my face, but couldn't think
of my name. Once I told him my name, he said, "How is your husband doing?" I told him that Spike was upstairs and
had just gone through a bone marrow transplant. Les said, "Is he gonna make it?" I said, "Absolutely!"
Les gave me a thumbs up, and then fell back to sleep. You see, Les and Charlene have been praying for Spike for nearly three
years now.
Les needs all of our prayers right now. The children have flown in from Honduras and are here with their
dad. Les is a go-getter and is having difficulty lying in a bed. He keeps trying to get up and "get to work". That's
our Les. U of M Hospital is running more tests on him and I will keep everyone updated as I hear more news.
Thank
you to all of our mission prayer warriors!
